The Assistant Town Clerk will work under the direction of the Town Clerk and in accordance with all applicable Massachusetts Laws, Town bylaws and regulations. Requires excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate to effectively deal with the general public, state offices and other town departments whether in person, by phone or e-mail. Has access to a variety of confidential information, such as birth, marriage and death records. Helps with the administrative work by assisting the Town Clerk with the preparation, maintenance and preservation of official functions relating to municipal records, conducting of all aspects  of town, state and federal elections, the mailing of the annual census and the data entry of returned census forms and the maintenance  of the voter  list, street list and school census list, assists with the certification of nomination papers and petitions submitted to the Board of Registrars, also the certification of absentee ballot applications and the issuance of official documents and  approximately 500 dog licenses.

The successful candidate shall be proficient in data entry, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and similar databases and will operate computers, printers, typewriter, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and other standard office equipment requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity, and shall have a working knowledge of office procedures, practices and terminology; ability to compose correspondence and prepare, type, and proofread as to form and logic flow and the ability to maintain detailed records and files. The general function of this position is to provide administrative assistance to the Town Administrator.  The position is under the direct supervision of the Town Administrator.

General duties include, but are not limited to: creating and maintaining file systems, mail, preparing various types of correspondence, assist in the preparation of meeting materials (Annual Town Meeting, Special Town Meetings, Board of Selectmen and Sewer Commission Meetings, Public Information Meetings, Department Head Meetings, Project Meetings, Training Sessions, etc.), preparing meeting minutes, screening of incoming phone calls, assisting the public; other departments; and other agencies with general town business. Other duties include, annual Licensing, assembling the Annual Town Report, processing insurance & worker’s compensation claims, preparation and submission of expense vouchers and payments to Treasurer.

This position requires the use of multiple types of office equipment e.g., phone, facsimile, copiers, printers, computers and projectors. In addition, familiarity using the current software and programs, are essential to performing the work of this office:

This is a 24 hour per week position. Candidate must be available for evening meetings of the Board of Selectmen and the Sewer Commissioners.

The Town of Hardwick, MA is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. The Operator will participate in the operation of all plant treatment processes. Responsibilities include operating pumps, motors, blowers, chemical feed systems, preventative and corrective maintenance and performing basic laboratory analysis, sample collection and process control for an extended aeration and SBR facility. The Operator works under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Wastewater Pollution Control.  Requirements: high school diploma or equivalent, a valid MA driver’s license, a valid MA grade 4M Wastewater Operators license or the ability to secure this license within 6 months. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; read operations manuals and good verbal skills. Experience with the operation and maintenance of extended aeration and SBR treatment processes a plus. Position is 40 hours/week with rotational weekend, holiday and on call coverage required.

The Town of Hardwick, MA is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Highway Department Mower/Laborer/Truck Driver. The duties of this position are mowing, trimming, operating equipment and operate highway trucks which includes winter plowing. This position also performs manual work on construction, maintenance or repair projects of the Highway Department; all other related work as required and directed by the Superintendent of Streets.

Preferred candidate would have experience in highway/roadway maintenance and construction, including heavy equipment operation.  Applicants must possess a valid C.D.L. Class B License with airbrake endorsement and a valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License Class 2A. Should an applicant without these licenses be considered, the individual must obtain the licenses within (6) six months of employment.
